Sixty representatives of tribes in Sinai have signed a document mandating the armed forces to combat terrorism, an armed forces spokesman said on Friday.
Elders of tribes and clans and representatives of more than 60 Arab tribes in North and South Sinai, Matrouh, and South Egypt have declared their full support for defense minister and army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's invitation," the spokesman said.
The representatives presented a document "signed with their blood to support the armed forces and aid them in all procedures taken to guard Egypt's security and stability".
In a speech he gave two days ago, Sisi urged Egyptians to take to the streets on Friday to provide the army with a popular mandate to combat terrorism.
