Judges for Egypt question increase in eligible voters in presidential elections

Reformist judge Zakaria Abdel-Aziz head of the Judges for Egypt movement issued a statement on Sunday directed to the head of the Supreme Presidential Electoral Commission (SPEC) and the Ministry of Interior questioning the integrity of the electoral register.
Formed by a group of reformist judges to monitor the elections process, Judges for Egypt point to a massive increase in the number of eligible voters between the last year's referendum and the presidential elections.
According to Abdel-Aziz's statement, the number of registered voters in for the March 2011 referendum was 45,112, 221, while for the May 2012 presidential elections it was 50,524,993. This is a difference of almost 5 million in 14 months.
Abdel-Aziz said in his statement that such a sizeable increase in that time period "was hard to logically believe," demanding an explanation from the SPEC and the interior ministry.
