CAIRO, Nov 22 (Aswat Masirya) - One person was killed on Saturday when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near the Fayoum-Beni Suef railway line in Upper Egypt's Beni Suef governorate, the ministry of interior (MOI) announced.

Security apparatus moved to the scene where they found an unidentified charred body suspected to have been injured while planting the IED, MOI added in a statement on its official Facebook page.

Three more IEDs were found while combing the railways along the Aswan-Cairo line, which were defused by explosives experts.

Earlier this morning, a minor explosion on the Sharqiya railroad broke part of the track, therefore halting traffic, state television reported.

The Railroad Authority said in a statement reported by state television that the explosion led to a metre-long damage to the track and also caused a 50 centimetre-deep hole beneath the track.

Egypt's security forces have intensified their security measures in reaction to repeated militant attacks that target army and police officials, which surged in several Egyptian governorates since the ouster of former Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in June 2013.

The attacks started in the Sinai Peninsula but soon expanded to other areas of the country, including the capital.

An IED exploded in the last cart of a train in the Menuf train station on November 5, killing four and injuring eight.
