CAIRO, Dec 2 (Aswat Masriya) An Egyptian prosecutor ordered on Monday that Ahmed Maher, the founder of the April 6 youth movement, be detained for four days.

The activist will be detained pending investigations into allegations that he attacked a police officer and stole his walkie-talkie while violating the new protest law. 

Maher has denied all the accusations against him, refuting that the movement had called for a demonstration by the Shura Council last Tuesday.  

He said that he was not aware that the protest law had been passed when he joined the demonstration. 

A protest law passed recently obliges protesters to inform the authorities of their demonstrations three days prior to staging them. 

Security forces dispersed a protest by the Shura Council last Tuesday, arresting tens of protesters who had gathered to denounce a constitutional article that allows the trying of civilians at military courts and the disputed protest law.
