CAIRO, Dec 4 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt won the 2016 Women’s World Team Squash Championship title after beating defending champions England in the final on Saturday.

After World No.1 Nour El Sherbini lost her first game against World No. Laura Massaro 3-1 (9-11, 11-5, 11-6 and 11-6), Egypt fought back to clinch the tournament's title for the third title in its history.

Nouran Gohar, 19, got Egypt back into the game as the World No.3 defeated 32-year-old Alison Waters 3-0 (11-6, 11-4 and 12-10).

World No.2 Raneem El Welily secured the title for Egypt after beating Sarah-Jane Perry 3-0 (12-10, 11-4 and 11-6) in the decider.

The tournament was held in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France between Nov. 27 and Dec. 3.

Egypt had reached the final after overcoming hosts France, who later claimed the third place, with a straight 3-0 victory.

The victory comes few days after El Sherbini, El Welily and Gohar took over the top three spots on the PSA Women’s World Rankings, which marked the first time in 20 years that three women from the same country held the top three positions.
