CAIRO, Feb 9 (Aswat Masriya) The “rebel” movement that organized mass demonstrations that toppled Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood last year froze the memberships of Hassan Shaheen and Mohamed Abdel Aziz on Sunday for supporting possible presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabahi.
Sabahi announced his intention to run for presidency late on Saturday in a press conference that Tamarod's Shaheen and Abdel Aziz attended.
Sabahi will officially announce his bid within days.
The leftist politician and founder of the Popular Current came third in 2012’s presidential elections that brought to power Islamist President Mursi who was ousted by the army in July.
Tamarod announced its official support for Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday even though the strong army man is yet to say whether he intends to contest in the race.
Sisi gained popularity last year when he ousted Mursi in response to mass demonstrations against his rule and is expected to win by a majority if he did enter the race.
Egypt’s top military council gave Sisi the green light to contest last month.
