CAIRO, Feb 13 (Aswat Masriya) – Two Egyptian army personnel were killed and another injured when a bomb detonated in North Sinai on Saturday morning, the military said.

Security personnel discovered an explosive device "in the area of Karm al-Qawadis" when they were combing it and tried to dismantle it but exploded in the process, a statement published on the military spokesman's official Facebook page said.

Militancy inside Egypt has surged since the military ouster of former president Mohamed Mursi in July 2013. While the vast majority of bombings and shootings take place in North Sinai, other parts of the country have been affected too.

Since October 2014, Sinai has been under a state of emergency enforced after a large-scale militant attack on the Karm al-Qawadis checkpoint in Sheikh Zeweid, which resulted in the death of at least 30 Egyptian soldiers. The state of emergency has been in place since.
