Egypt’s President Mohamed Mursi held an emergency meeting on Thursday with the Minister of Justice Ahmed Mekki and Prime Minister Hisham Kandil.
The cabinet will submit legal proposals to contain the ongoing clashes in Cairo’s Mohamed Mahmoud Street.
Thousands of demonstrators had rallied in Mohamed Mahmoud Street on Monday to commemorate the first anniversary of last November’s scuffles which killed more than 40 people.
Confrontations erupted between police forces and protesters on Monday injuring 118 people according to the Health Ministry.
Thursday's meeting aims at drafting a new law equivalent to the infamous emergency law in an attempt to control the protesters in the downtown area where clashes have continued for the past four days, Al-Jazeera reported.
The law would regulate protests and punishments for protesters who resort to violence.
