An Egyptian court adjourned the retrial of the two policemen accused of killing Khaled Said to 6 July and ordered their release on Saturday, reported the Middle East News Agency.

Khaled Said, a 28-year-old man, was brutally beaten to death in police custody in June 2010. An incident that is believed to have sparked the 2011 uprising that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak.

In October 2011, both policemen were found guilty of manslaughter and were sentenced to seven years. They were convicted of using excessive force which killed Said, but were not convicted of "torture with the purpose of killing" which is a capital crime. Human Rights organizations and Said's family considered the verdict a light sentence.

The lawyer of the two lower-ranking police officers, Mahmoud Salah Mahmoud and Awad Ismail Soliman, appealed the verdict and demanded their release.
