Four Nasserist political parties released a statement on Thursday declaring their decision to unite into one party that goes by the name The Nasserist Party.

Nasserism is a nationalist political ideology inspired by Egypt's former President Gamal Abdel Nasser.

Representatives from the Karama Party, the Arab Democratic Nasserist Party, the Wafaq Party and the Popular Nasserist Conference Party signed the initiative.

Abdel Hakeem Abdel Nasser, the former leader's son, will officially announce the decision on Nasser's commemoration, at 10 a.m. on September 28.

This will be followed by a press conference at the journalists syndicate at 2 p.m. where representatives from the four parties will attend.

Many political parties in Egypt are currently working on forming coalitions and blocs in an attempt to face off Islamists in the country's upcoming parliamentary elections.
