The constituent assembly formed a special committee to compare between President Mohamed Mursi’s continuation in office and calling for early presidential elections once a new constitution is drafted, Sobhi Saleh, a leading figure in the Muslim Brotherhood and member of the assembly, said.

The assembly “has not discussed this yet and has not reached any decisions. If it sees that calling for presidential elections after constitution drafting is best, it will do so”, al-Masry al-Youm reported Saleh as saying.

Most of the assembly’s members agreed to cancel the Ministry of Information and “establish a special independent council free from government interference”, Saleh said. He expected the final decision on cancelling the ministry will be announced after the new government is formed.
