The Democratic Front of the April 6 youth movement officially submitted a claim to General Prosecutor Abdel Maguid Mahmoud accusing former defense minister Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi and his deputy Sami Anan of murder.

Tantawi, who headed the SCAF (Supreme Council of Armed Forces) that ruled Egypt after former President Hosni Mubarak's ouster, and his deputy, were accused of giving military forces direct orders to attack protesters in the clashes of Mohamed Mahmoud, Cabinet and Abassiya.

April 6, which played a prominent role in the 2011 revolt that toppled Mubarak, also accused the two top army generals, of ordering forces to conduct random arrests and military trials.

Tens of April 6 activists staged a protest by the Supreme Court on Tuesday morning asking for legal measures against the two old guards to take place.

In a recent government reshuffle, Egypt's newly-elected Islamist President Mohamed Mursi ordered Tantawi and Anan to retire.

Mursi granted the two army generals medals and appointed them as advisors.
