Egypt's National Council for Women asked the elections committee on Monday to respond to the complaints of women regarding violations in the constitutional referendum.

The council received 309 complaints from women during the first round of the referendum which were sent to the elections committee.

"We have not received any response to these complaints and they were not referred to in any press releases issued by the elections committee," the council said in a statement.

The statement stressed upon the necessity to prevent the violations, that took place in the first round of the referendum, from happening in the second round.

The council had allocated an operation room to receive and report violations against women during the referendum.

The first round of a referendum on a draft constitution written by an Islamist-dominated assembly began on Saturday while the second round is scheduled for December 22.
