CAIRO, Oct 15 (Aswat Masriya) – Fifteen people were injured in the explosion which occurred near the Supreme Court in downtown Cairo on Tuesday night, Egypt's public prosecution said on Wednesday.

The explosion was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which detonated remotely, the prosecution said in a statement.

The prosecution said the incident remains under investigation.

The casualties include a pregnant woman, a two-year-old child and an eleven-month-old child, the prosecution reported.

Bombings and shootings have surged since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Mursi last year.

Major attacks, mainly targeting security forces and installations, have been mostly claimed by radical Al-Qaida-inspired groups based in the Sinai Peninsula.
