A march of hundreds on Friday headed from al-Nour Mosque in Abbasiya towards the presidential palace to participate in the "Friday of Salvation" demonstration.
Protesters held flags that carried pictures of several martyrs who were killed during violence incidents since Mohamed Mursi was elected president of Egypt.
"The people demand the downfall of the regime" was one of the prominent slogans chanted during the march.
