Omaima Kamel, President Mohamed Mursi's Advisor for Women's Affairs, said on Wednesday that the statistics of sexual harassment in Egypt have been exaggerated.

In a meeting that took place as part of the presidential initiative for  "Supporting the Rights and Freedoms of Egyptian Women", she demanded that the Interior Minister provide realistic figures, considering it the only authority with the ability to monitor violations on the streets.

The initiative is a four-month long conference which includes six workshops that discuss the promotion of women’s rights and freedoms.

The first workshop discussed sexual harassment in terms of legislation and societal confrontation, and today's meeting discussed activating the recommendations which were proposed in the workshop, the state news agency reported.

The National Council for Women has proposed a draft law to counter all forms of violence against women.
