CAIRO, March 4 (Aswat Masriya) An Egyptian court banned on Tuesday all activities of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas in Egypt and ordered the confiscation of the group's headquarters, a source told Aswat Masriya.

A plaintiff had blamed Hamas and its members of many of the violent events that took place during the January 25 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

Egypt has accused Hamas of backing extremists to confront the authorities in the Sinai Peninsula since the overthrow of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.

Mursi and other Muslim Brotherhood leaders are accused of spying in collaboration with foreign bodies, including Palestine's Hamas and Lebanon's Hezbollah.
