Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya nominates Islamists, women, Copts for constituent assembly

The ultraconservative Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya has announced its nominations, from parliamentarians, political wing and public figures, for the constituent assembly tasked with drafting Egypt’s new constitution.

From their political wing (Building and Development Party), Al-Gamaa nominated Hani Nour Al-Din, Mohamed Al-Sughyar, Abdel Akher Hamad, Usama Hafez and Nagy Derbalah, reported the Middle East News Agency,

Al-Gamaa also nominated Ahmed Saber, Hossam Al-Gheryani, Tharwat Badawi, Al-Sayed Yasin, Mohamed Amara, Fahmi Hweedi, Mohamed Ibrahim Mabruk, Sheikh Mohamed Hassan, Saif Abdel Fatah, Heba Raouf Ezzat, Nadia Mostafa, Gamal Asaad Abdel Malak, Rafiq Habib, Amr Hamzawi, Amr Shobaki, Wahid Abdel Magid, Farouk Goweida and Mahmoud Al-Saqa.

As well as political analyst Diaa Rashwan, constitutional expert, Atef Al-Bana, Al-Shahat Al-Gendi, Anwar Dabour, Mohamed Kamal Imam and Youssef Qassem.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Hassan Hamad, member of Al-Gamaa, said that they are yet to decide on a candidate to back for president, suggesting that a more suitable candidate may enter the race.
