British Prime Minister David Cameron congratulated Egypt’s first elected president Mohamed Mursi on his victory in the country’s presidential election.

In a statement the British Embassy in Cairo issued on Monday, Cameron wished Mursi success in the mission to support Egypt’s transition to democracy and build the stable, prosperous future all Egyptians deserve, the Middle East News Agency reported.

The United Kingdom’s government welcomed Mursi’s intention to form an inclusive cabinet.

Establishing democratic institutions bent on performing their duties and realising the people’s aspirations of reform and accountability will be of vital importance to pave the way for more stability, Cameron said.

He also emphasized the importance of forming a cabinet that reflects the wide range of political powers in Egypt.

Cameron stated he looks forward to working with Mursi and his cabinet on matters of common interest for the peace and the stability of the region.
