Demonstrators in Cairo and several cities on Friday protested against President Mohamed Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood amid chants calling on the armed forces to assume power nine months after they transferred it to Mursi.

Scores of protesters in Cairo headed to the Unknown Soldier Memorial and urged Minister of Defence Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to assume power instead of Mursi.

The protesters who included a number of retired soldiers cut off the Nasr Road and chanted pro-army and anti-brotherhood slogans in the demonstration they called "The Last Chance Friday".

In Alexandria, hundreds of protesters headed from al-Qaed Ibrahim Mosque to the Northern Military Area in the city to demand releasing political prisoners and sacking the chief prosecutor general.

Scores of people including some "Black Bloc" members partially halted traffic at Alexandria's Corniche, an Aswat Masriya witness reported.

Some of the demonstrators also called for the return of the military council to run the country and overthrowing the regime.

Masses of demonstrators marched in Port Said to protest against the rule of Mursi and the Brotherhood days after a court ruling that sentenced 21 to death in the 2012 Port Said football massacre.

Scores gathered at al-Shoun Square in Gharbiya to protest against the regime while others demonstrated in Tanta's al-Shohadaa Square and chanted anti-Mursi slogans.

Oppositionists and unemployed youths in Suez organised a demonstration in al-Arba'een Square to demand completing the revolution's objectives and providing job opportunities for youth.

They also demanded sacking the governor of Suez and chanted slogans against Mursi.
