Campaign of presidential candidate Hisham Bastawisi denied reports that he may withdraw for another candidate, insisting on his intention to run the race until the end.

"We insist on our commitment to our principles and not giving up on them under any circumstances, and we are counting on the awareness of the Egyptian people in electing a candidate", a statement by the campaign confirmed.

The campaign suggested that all attempts to reach consensus with pro-revolution candidates failed, explaining, "We tried to rally behind one candidate whose platform meets the aspirations of post-Mubarak Egypt, and we expressed our willingness to withdraw for a candidate, if consensus was reached, with national interest as priority, but we failed".

Leftist presidential candidates who were involved in negotiations with Bastawisi, are Hamdeen Sabahi, Abul Ezz Al-Hariri and Khaled Ali. An agreement would have forced, three of the candidates to withdraw in favor of the fourth, in an attempt to avoid the fragmentation of pro-revolution votes.
