CAIRO, Apr 4 (Aswat Masriya) - The Egyptian military subjected "terrorists" to "heavy losses", killing 35 after last week's deadly attacks in Sinai, the armed forces spokesman said on Saturday.

Clashes had erupted simultaneously between "terrorists" and personnel at security checkpoints in two cities in North Sinai on Thursday, leaving 15 militants and five security personnel dead, the spokesman had said

Army Spokesman Mohamed Samir said in a statement today that "the implications of the incident left 11 fighters" with "serious injuries" dead, "raising the death toll among security personnel to 16."

This deadly attack was addressed today in an urgent meeting between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces earlier today.

Militancy inside Egypt has seen a significant rise since July 2013, with most attacks targeting security forces in North Sinai.

Amid intensified campaigns by Egypt's military to fight the insurgency, hundreds of suspected militants have been killed in the past few weeks alone.
