CAIRO, Mar 24 (Aswat Masriya) - A conscript was killed on Tuesday when armed assailants opened fire on him in al-Arish city in North Sinai, medical and security sources said, making this the second deadly attack in Sinai today.

Security sources said unidentified assailants in a car shot the 21-year-old conscript, who belonged to the Central Security Forces (CSF).

The bullet penetrated his lungs, killing him, medical sources said.

The conscript was shot while walking on a road, across from the CSF headquarters in al-Arish.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants drove away after the shooting.

Militancy inside Egypt has seen a significant rise since July 2013, with most attacks targeting security forces in North Sinai.

Earlier today, two security personnel were killed when an improvised explosive device planted on the side of a road in North Sinai detonated, while the security vehicle they were in was passing by.
