CAIRO, Nov 28 (Aswat Masriya) - An army brigadier was killed and two others were injured Friday after unidentified assailants shot them at Gesr al-Suez area in Cairo, the armed forces said in a statement.

The ranks of those injured were not revealed.

The assailants fled the scene, according to the statement. Security forces are combing the area in search for the perpetrators.

Another army officer was killed and a conscript was injured Friday morning after unknown assailants shot them at the Abu Zaabal area in Qalyubia province north of Cairo, according to Qalyubia security chief.

An official statement addressing the accident has not been issued so far.

Security apparatuses across Egypt raised their state of alert in main cities and squares, in anticipation of Islamist protests scheduled for Friday.

Egypt's ultra-conservative Salafi Front, called on people to take to the streets on Friday holding Qurans to "impose the Islamic identity". The rallies are scheduled to take off from several mosques in Egypt after Friday prayers, according to their official Facebook page.
