CAIRO, June 30 (Aswat Masriya) The bombs that exploded near the presidential palace in Cairo earlier on Monday left two people killed and 13 wounded, said an official statement by the Health Ministry.

The first explosion caused the death of one person and the injury of four, while the second one killed another person and wounded 9 people, according to the Health Ministry.

The two dead men were police officers who were trying to defuse the makeshift bombs planted near the Ittihadya Presidential palace.

The blasts came to mark the first anniversary of the June 30 protests that led to the ouster of President Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood last year.

A militant group that calls itself Ajnad Misr had warned that they planted bombs in the same area to target security forces. They said they were forced to suspend their mission due to concerns that civilians would be hurt.

Attacks against security forces have increased since Mursi's ouster.
