SUEZ, Sept 13 (Aswat Masriya) – One conscript was killed and three more were injured in an attack on a checkpoint on the Cairo-Suez road on Friday evening.

Unidentified assailants engaged in crossfire with members of the checkpoint, armed forces spokesman Mohamed Samir said in a statement. Security forces were able to deter the attack; they are currently working on arresting those involved.

Another security conscript was killed in North Sinai's al-Arish city on Friday when armed men driving a car shot him dead while on duty.

Egypt's security forces have intensified their security measures in North Sinai in reaction to repeated militant attacks that target army and police officials, which rose significantly since the military ouster of former President Mohamed Mursi last year.

Militant attacks have expanded from Sinai, reaching other areas in the country, including the capital.

A fact-sheet prepared by Egypt's ministry of foreign affairs put the death toll for terrorism acts which took place since January 2011 and until April 2014 at 971, including 664 security personnel.
