CAIRO, Aug 18 (Aswat Masriya) - Eight people died on Monday as a result of the brutal heat Egypt has been experiencing over the past few weeks, the Health Ministry said.

Most of them were senior citizens, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday, adding that 295 people were hospitalised after experiencing heat-related fatigue.

Of those hospitalised, 173 were discharged, the ministry's statement read.

The latest deaths bring the death toll from elevated temperatures across the country to at least 105 people, since August 9.

Egypt has been hit by scorching heat this summer. The temperature in the south of the country has soared well above 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) for the past few days.

The Health Ministry has repeatedly warned senior citizens and people with chronic diseases, calling on them to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, particularly at noon and to take protective measures.
