133 people were hospitalised with 'heat exhaustion' on Thursday as high temperatures continued across Egypt, according to a health ministry statement broadcast on state television on Friday.

The ministry said there were no deaths and that 71 of those hospitalised have been released.

The cases were reported in the governorates of Cairo, Giza, Qalioubiya, Suez and South Sinai in addition to Aswan, Qena, Assiut, Luxor, Sohag and Minya in Upper Egypt.

The ministry called on citizens - particularly children, the elderly and those with chronic diseases - to take precautionary measures when in high temperatures.

The ministry had announced on Thursday that 110 people died in Egypt in August due to a heat wave which, along with high humidity levels, swept the country.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority said the weather is expected to be moderate on Friday. Temperatures will reach 35C in Cairo, 32C in Alexandria on the Mediterranean and 40C in Sharm El-Sheikh on the Red Sea.
