JERUSALEM, Oct 22 (Reuters) - An Israeli military force came under fire along the Egyptian border on Wednesday, the Israeli army said without disclosing whether there were any casualties.

Islamist militants have been active in Egypt's lawless Sinai peninsula that borders southern Israel.

"Shots have been fired at the Israel Defence Forces on the border with Egypt," a military spokesman said. He did not identify the attackers.
