CAIRO, Aug 22 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt might receive Russian air defense system "S-300", previously designated for Syria, Russian agency ITAR-TASS reported on Friday.

Our Egyptian partners have expressed interest in acquiring the "S-300", a source at Russian military-industrial complex told ITAR-TASS, adding that the system might be adjusted shortly to meet Egypt's demands.

"Egypt has purchased ammunition and equipment worth almost $400 million over the last decade, in light of military cooperation with Russia, the source added.

Russia is scheduled to supply Egypt with at least 5 million tonnes of wheat and Cairo is ready for an increase in its supply of agricultural commodities by 30 percent, Russian President Vladmir Putin said in a joint press conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on August 12.

"Both countries are considering the creation of a free trade zone," Putin said, adding that both presidents agreed to expand technical military cooperation between their states.

Diplomatic relations between Moscow and Cairo started in 1943. It reached its peek in the sixties as the Soviet Union supported Egypt in building infrastructure projects.
