Members of the children's forum of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood have asked Egypt's president and premier for safety and security particularly following repeated cases of child abuse.

With 40 children from 27 provinces, the members drafted a document to guarantee the protection of the rights of Egypt's children.

They vowed to circulate it nationwide in solidarity with the families of Assiut's recent train crash where over 40 children were killed.

"We will not allow a repetition of this tragic incident where more than 50 children were killed in a matter of a few seconds. It is unreasonable for the blood of Egyptian children to be worthless", they said.

The members had held an emergency session to condemn the negligence that killed 51 children in a train crash in Assiut on Saturday, where they asked decision-makers for road security and other types of protection.

The young members urged the council to follow up on the issue to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
