Beni Suef’s Criminal Court acquitted General Ahmed Shawqi and 10 of his aides on Tuesday from charges of killing protesters during the 2011 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak.

The court had called former Interior Minister Ahmed Gamal al-Deen and another senior official to hear their testimonies but the hearing was postponed until a general report on the events was drafted.

Nineteen people were killed and around 30 were injured in Beni Suef on the day dubbed "Friday of Rage" during the 18-day revolt that ousted Mubarak's regime.
