Former Speaker of the now-dissolved People’s Assembly Saad al-Katatni was sent to Torah Prison on Thursday along with Mohamed Rashad Bayoumi, the deputy of the Brotherhood spiritual guide, reported the state news agency.

Katatni, who was also the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party head, and Bayoumi were arrested late on Wednesday after the army’s ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.

In similar news, a court ordered the arrest of spiritual guide Mohamed Badie and businessman Khairat al-Shater on Thursday, along with five other senior members, for inciting the killing of Mursi’s opponents by the MB’s headquarters.

Egypt’s top army commander Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Wednesday that the army has agreed with political forces to suspend the constitution and delegate the head of the constitutional court as an interim president.

The head of Egypt's Constitutional Court, Adli Mansour, was sworn into office on Thursday as the country's interim president until early presidential elections are held.
