Egypt's Salafist Call expressed its fear on Tuesday that the visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Egypt may go beyond its declared purposes.
In response to media reports that Ahmadinejad will tour several mosques, the Salafi Call said that the visit should not be to mosques that Shiite claim to represent, a statement for the call on the “Salaf Voice” website reported.
The call also demanded rejecting the president's visit to Cairo's Tahrir Square "as this may carry many negative messages especially in light of the critical circumstances the country is going through".
Egypt must deal with Iran's president as the biggest Sunni country, the call said, adding that Egypt must not forget its commitment to protect all Sunni countries from political, cultural, and military invasion.
Ahmadinejad is currently on a visit to Egypt to attend the Islamic Summit conference held in Cairo.
The conference which takes place over the period of two days will start Wednesday 6 February.
