Egypt's "National Authority for Tunnels" signed a contract on Wednesday of 2.2 billion Egyptian pounds with Korea's Hyundai to buy 20 air-conditioned trains for one of its main underground lines.

A statement on Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil's Facebook page confirmed that the cabinet intends to pay off the debt from the state budget.

Hyundai will be responsible for the maintenance and rehabilitation of the trains for eight years following the end of the guarantee period.

Egypt’s underground receives around one million passengers daily.
